Out of a small workshop that was once an old biscuit mill factory in Cape Town, South Africa, a group of women gather each day, to embroider their life stories. On French cotton embroidered with fine colourful thread the small teddy bears hold the stories of their often complex and challenging lives. Each little embroidered bear is completely unique and a one of a kind. Detailed hand-embroidery is a labour intensive process. It takes several weeks to make a tiny bear. Through this creative outlet, small teddy bears are changed into whimsical, magical creatures and a group of women in South Africa have the opportunity to earn a dignified income.
