These amazing recycled animals are made from rubbish!  Eastern African shores are littered with debris from as far away as China, Indonesia and Japan  The rubbish includes thousands of brightly-coloured pieces and parts of rubber thongs/flip-flops, not only does this floating pollution create an eyesore along the coastline but it endangers the fragile marine eco-system. The Flip- Flop I Was initiative by UniquEco was designed to not only clean up the environment by making products using this waste but also as a way of providing employment opportunities to the poor communities that have been hardest hit by this environmental degradation.

Now Kenyan women and children comb the shores to collect the indestructible pieces of rubber Talented artisans and sculptors in the local village glue the pieces of rubber together in multicolored patterns, then hand carve each block of rubber carefully transforming recycled waste into stunning works of art.

These ingeniously crafted eco friendly sculptures are a perfect example of how consumers can use their purchasing power to help preserve the precious marine environment while at the same time providing employment opportunities to an inspired community half a world away. These unique and exciting pieces of art make a fantastic eco-friendly gift which will be enjoyed for years to come

South African beadwork

Recycled art and Township art from Africa is a perfect example of how beautiful things can be made from the simplest objects . Much of the recycled and township art from Africa is made from everyday things and materials that have been discarded that are then skilfully recycled and turned into a beautiful and useful objects.

There is a wide variety of hand-crafted African Bead and Wire Art that display this most impressive creativity. The beadwork includes traditional African Ndebele dolls, animals, keyrings and jewellery Some of the many African crafts include the following impressively creative items: Recycled Rubber Flip Flop Sculptures from Kenya, Shopping bags made of discarded food packaging ,Recycled Paper Cards made in Rwanda, and much more.

For collectors the African dolls and animals indigenous to Africa which are created from wire and beads are definitely some of the most endearing and beautiful of the art from Africa. The animals include zebras, hippos and even chickens and the amazing creative animals from Monkeybiz

One very beautiful piece of recycled art from Africa is the recycled metal candle maid with beaded skirt. Though this piece is a candleholder, the unique lines of this sculpture made from scrap metal are brilliant. The colorful beadwork against the rustic metal brings Africa to life with the stark contrast.

Other recycled pieces such as recycled rubber chickens and Zolo dolls are a little more quirky but still display the creativity and humour that is intrinsic in all the African pieces.
